Steps to upload firmware to a NETGEAR router using TFTP

              Netgear Tech Support 

 
 The steps below presents how to reload firmware onto a NETGEAR router that won't boot due to corrupt firmware.

Issues :

  • Router not booting up properly
  • Failed firmware update
  • Blinking power LED
  • Power LED is blinking/solid amber

  1.   1. Click Open Network and Sharing Center.
  2.  

    Click Local Area Connection.
     
    Click Properties.
     

    Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
     
    Select Use the following IP address and set the IP address like below picture.
    IP address => 192.168.1.10
    Subnet mask => 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway => 192.168.1.1
     
    Click OK to save the configuration.
  3. Now run the tftp2.exe file that was downloaded earlier.
    1. In the Server field enter the default router IP (usually 192.168.1.1).
    2. In the Password field enter the default router password (usually 'password).
    3. In the File field, browse by clicking the square button next to it for and locate the firmware provided on step 1.Do not click the upgrade button yet.
  4. Unplug all port connections from router except the PC you are using to upload.
  5. Turn router OFF for 10 seconds.
  6. Hold down the reset button on the back of router with a paper clip.
  7. Power ON the router while holding down the reset button.
  8. Watch the Power LED. It starts with orange color, and then will start flashing orange.
  9. Power LED will then turn to flashing green. Count at least 10 flashing green LED and release the reset button.
  10. Click Upgrade button on the tftp2 utility to do firmware upgrade.
  11. You should see a note saying “Firmware was upgraded successfully”. If not, you may need to repeat above steps.

  12. The firmware has been uploaded but need to wait about 4 minutes for the router to finish storing firmware into its flash memory. Once it’s done, you will see the Power LED will turn green and the wireless LEDs are both lit.
    Note: Please remember to change your PC back to “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”.

SET UP WIRELESS SECURITY FOR NETGEAR ROUTERS


WANT TO CHANGE YOUR NETGEAR ROUTER SETTING LET THIS STEP HELP YOU OUT.

  1. From a computer connected to your router, go to 192.168.0.1

    192.168.0.1 entered into browser address bar
  2. Enter the details below when asked to log in

    User name: admin
    Password: password

    Enter username admin, and password as password.
  3. The Netgear's admin pages will open

  4. If the router starts checking for new firmware, click Cancel
  5. Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu

  6. The Wireless Network field is where you'll find your wireless network name

    - Name (SSID): You can change this to something new and personal to you
    - Region: select Europe
    - Channel: select Auto
    - Mode: select Up to 150Mbps

  7. In the Wireless Access Point field

    - Check Enable Wireless Access Point
    - Check Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)
    Don't check Wireless Isolation


  8. In the Security Options field, select Mixed WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK


  9. In the Network Key field you'll find your security key or password
  10. If you'd like, you can enter a new security key for your connection

    This should be over eight characters and can be made up of upper and lower case letters from a-z and numbers 0-9.


  11. Click Apply - any changes you've made will be updated
